Niobium Plate
Classification :
Product introduction
Niobium Plate is a flat metal material primarily composed of niobium (Nb) metal, manufactured through smelting, forging, and rolling. Niobium is a rare, high-melting-point metal whose unique physical and chemical properties make it irreplaceable in numerous high-end industrial sectors.
Core features
一、 Physical properties | 1. Melting Point/Boiling Point: With a melting point of 2468°C and a boiling point of 4742°C, niobium exhibits excellent high-temperature resistance. 2. Density: 8.57-8.6 g/cm³, making it a medium-density metal. 3. Electrical Conductivity: It exhibits excellent electrical conductivity at room temperature, surpassing that of ordinary steel. 4. Superconductivity: Its electrical resistance is zero at approximately -260°C, making it an important superconducting material. 5. Ductility: High-purity niobium exhibits excellent ductility, allowing for cold forming. Increasing impurity content reduces ductility and increases hardness. |
二、Chemical properties | 1. Room Temperature Stability: Stable in air, it readily forms a dense oxide film (Nb₂O₅) on its surface, preventing further corrosion. 2. Corrosion Resistance: Insoluble in common acids and bases such as aqua regia, hydrochloric acid, and sulfuric acid, its corrosion resistance surpasses that of most common metals. 3. High-Temperature Reactivity: At high temperatures, it readily reacts with sulfur, nitrogen, and carbon to form compounds (such as NbC and NbN). |

Technical parameters
1. Implementation Standards: National Standard GB/T 3630-2006; American Standard ASTM B393-05
2. Purity: Industrial grade generally ≥99.95%, high-purity grade can reach over 99.99%
3. Product Conditions:
- Annealed (O): High-temperature annealing, excellent ductility, suitable for subsequent processing.
- Hard (H): Cold-worked but not annealed, with high hardness and strength.
4. Common Specifications:
- Thickness: 0.15-6.0mm (customizable upon request)
- Width: 50-300mm
- Length: 50-1000mm
Processing characteristics
1. Thickness can be adjusted through hot and cold rolling processes. High-purity niobium can be cold-rolled to ultra-thin gauges (e.g., less than 0.1 mm).
2. Welding requires inert gas shielding (e.g., argon arc welding) to prevent high-temperature oxidation.
3. Annealing relieves processing stresses and restores ductility. Typical temperatures are 800-1200°C.
Application areas
1. Superconductors: Used in the manufacture of superconducting coils for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment, particle accelerators, and superconducting quantum computers.
2. Aerospace: Used in rocket engine nozzles, spacecraft thermal protection materials, and composited with materials such as titanium and nickel to create high-temperature structural alloys.
3. Electronics: Used in the manufacture of high-frequency capacitors, vacuum tube electrodes, and semiconductor substrate materials.
4. Chemicals: Used in the manufacture of corrosion-resistant components such as reactor linings, pipes, and valves that are resistant to strong acids and alkalis.
5. Nuclear Power: Due to its low thermal neutron capture cross-section, it is used in nuclear reactor blankets and core structural components.
